Listening is more than simply hearing. Hearing is the act of receiving and recording information. Listening (sometimes called "active listening") engages the listener’s full attention and provides the correct environment for comprehending and processing what’s being said.
Much of our modern technology helps us hear, but reduces our ability to listen. If those busy employees in your meeting are creating task reminders or scheduling follow up meetings, they are indeed hearing, but they aren’t actively listening. And that’s bad news.
But there's good news— active listening skills are fluid, they can be improved and strengthened.
