Progressive Discipline of Remote Workers in Unprecedented Times

Duration: 60 minutes

Progressive discipline is usually seen as a way to protect yourself in the event of wrongful termination lawsuits. When you’ve got an under-performing employee, you need that paper trail to protect you in court. But there’s an often-overlooked goal for progressive discipline – one that focuses on saving employees who are worth keeping, rather than preparing for termination.

The most troublesome aspect of discipline, however, is that we talk about it as something that we “do to people” rather than as something to be developed and nurtured among our staff. Ideally, you need employees who are self-disciplined for excellence, not punished into compliance.

This webinar will deal with the positive side of progressive discipline for your remote workforce and give you a roadmap for keeping your keepers during challenging times. (more details below)

* Approved for 1.0 recertification credit hour through HRCI & SHRM.

WHY ATTEND

This presentation will give participants a fresh view on progressive discipline. Remote work has become the norm. However, for it to be effective, employees must be willing to engage and accept constructive criticism. Leaders must find new ways to communicate information and keep workers on task.

This webinar will explain the “Career Advocate” model for salvaging endangered employees. Not the ones you desperately want to lose, but those you’ve invested in heavily and would like to keep, but whose jobs are threatened for one reason or another.

Participants will learn the positive role that progressive discipline can play, especially when employees are working remotely. You will learn how to seize opportunities to change behavior and retain valuable employees who would otherwise have to be terminated.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In this Webinar you will learn how to:

  • Handle discipline with employees who have shifted to telework.
  • Evaluate the traditional approach to employee discipline to the 5-step “Career Advocate” model
  • Take corrective rather than punitive action by dealing with each employee honestly and compassionately
  • Turn struggling employees who want to save their jobs into solid contributors
  • Use progressive discipline to identify and address potential problems before they turn into a crisis
  • Implement 8 tips for coaching before giving up on those worth saving
