Creating Legally Sound Job Descriptions: Why It’s Time for an Update

Duration: 60 minutes

Many companies think of job descriptions as a recruitment tool to attract potential candidates. But if that’s all you think they are you’re making a big mistake. Job descriptions are legal documents.

Rock-solid job descriptions are one of the best ways to stay out of court (and ensure victory should you ever get sued). This program will give you the legal guidance you need to get them right. (more details below)

* Approved for 1.0 recertification credit hour through HRCI & SHRM.

WHY ATTEND

In court, job descriptions are among the first things plaintiffs’ attorneys demand. And a lot of discrimination, harassment and ADA cases depend on what’s in those job descriptions.

Often times, your odds of winning hinge on this key question: How long have some of your employees been operating under the same job descriptions? If the answer is more than a year or two, chances are legislative updates, case law and government agency guidance has rendered parts of their job descriptions useless—or worse—illegal.

If you believe your organization’s job descriptions are outdated, or if you’re working on documents for new hires, this webinar is a must.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn:

  • The four critical elements every job description needs at every level of the workforce (Note: missing any one of them could set you up for costly litigation)
  • How to design job descriptions that are measurable for performance management
  • How federal, state and local laws must be properly considered in the job description
  • Exact verbiage for legally solid job descriptions
  • Key issues surrounding The Americans with Disabilities Act, which impacts ALL job descriptions
  • Best practices for when and how to review and revise job descriptions… without raising legal red flags
