HR Self-Audits: How to Spot Compliance Risks and Fix Them Fast

Duration: 60 minutes

In HR, prevention is your strongest defense against litigation risk. But how do you spot potential legal problems before they result in compliance trouble? Answer: With an HR audit. Unfortunately, many HR pros struggle to find the time to get it done. Others are unsure where to start. This program will give you step-by-step guidance, self-tests and check lists on how to conduct an HR audit the right way. (more details below)

* Approved for 1.0 recertification credit hour through HRCI & SHRM.

WHY ATTEND

Just as the accounting department regularly performs self-audits to ensure compliance, HR needs to run regular checks on its own practices. HR audits reveal the little blind spots and compliance issues that, if found by government regulators or a plaintiff’s attorney, can cause enormous damage to—or even ruin—your organization’s finances and reputation.

Problem is, many HR professionals either lack the time or the experience to get it done. But while it can seem like there’s never a good time to perform an HR audit, the downside of putting it off is too big to ignore. With just a little knowledge and attention, you can deliver a huge reduction in risk for your organization.

That’s why we’re hosting this must-attend webinar with employment law attorney Anniken Davenport. She’ll take you step by step through a comprehensive audit strategy, including essential check-lists, self-tests, the latest case law and regulatory updates, as well as a plan for getting executive-level buy-in for the whole program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

You will learn:

  • How to spot inconsistent handbook rules that can get you in trouble, including bad dress policies, attendance policies that automatically violate the reasonable accommodations section of ADA, and new rules impacting pregnant women and nursing mothers.
  • How to make sure you’re offering leave to everyone who now qualifies, including returning soldiers and the relatives that care for them
  • Who is a “child” under updated EEOC rules
  • Best confidentiality practices, to ensure you’re meeting obligations under the FMLA, ADA and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)
  • How to make sure your disciplinary process ensures fair and consistent application of workplace rules.
  • Which job application questions are “lawsuit magnets”
  • How to spot wage-and-hour problems like misclassification
