Employee Handbook Pitfalls: 10 Mistakes Plaintiffs’ Attorneys Are Dying to Find

Duration: 60 minutes

Even if you updated your employee handbook last year, you can’t assume your company is safe. It’s one of the first places an angry employee and their attorney will look if they believe your employment practices aren’t fair. Handbooks must be continually re-examined and updated to keep up with changing regulations. And the past 24 months have been jam-packed with changes you and your organization need to know about. * Approved for 1.0 recertification credit hour through HRCI & SHRM.

WHY ATTEND

Your employee handbook is your first line of defense against employee lawsuits. A good one will stand up in court and protect your company. But an outdated or poorly drafted one – containing buzzwords, promises you can’t keep, or unnecessary language– is a dream come true for disgruntled employees and their attorneys. In fact, plaintiffs’ attorneys frequently build their cases on poorly crafted handbooks.

To ensure your handbook isn’t a lawsuit waiting to happen, please join employment law expert Anniken Davenport for this informative and interactive webinar.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This session will cover:

  • Current and upcoming employment law changes that require adjustments to your employee handbook
  • The most common employee handbook errors that have cost employers in court
  • Specific phrases that a disgruntled employee’s attorney is dying to find
  • Language that may create an “accidental contract”- and how to fix it
  • Why dress codes and English-only policies spell big trouble
  • Why you may have to worry about recent changes from the National Labor Relations Board—even if you don’t have unionized employees
