Nobody Is Listening Anymore! How to Overcome Modern Communication Challenges

Duration: 60 minutes

Imagine you’re talking to a room full of your company’s best employees. The smartest, hardest working, most engaged people you know. But you look up and see the tops of their heads as their eyes stay glued on a laptop or phone screen, fingers typing frantically.

The truth is, they may be hearing you and taking diligent notes, but they aren’t listening. This webinar provides you with strategies you can implement today to bring real communication back into the workplace and, with it, the improved morale and productivity that it makes possible. (more details below)

WHY ATTEND

Listening is more than simply hearing. Hearing is the act of receiving and recording information. Listening (sometimes called "active listening") engages the listener’s full attention and provides the correct environment for comprehending and processing what’s being said.

Much of our modern technology helps us hear, but reduces our ability to listen. If those busy employees in your meeting are creating task reminders or scheduling follow up meetings, they are indeed hearing, but they aren’t actively listening. And that’s bad news.

But there's good news— active listening skills are fluid, they can be improved and strengthened.

This webinar, featuring corporate communications expert Pamela Jett, will tackle today’s communication challenges organization-wide on two different fronts: helping employees boost active listening skills, and building a workplace culture that embraces both technology AND traditional interpersonal communication skills.

Pamela is NOT going to tell you that employees should never be allowed to take notes on their computers during a meeting. Instead, she’ll teach you how to structure that meeting in a way that allows employees to both rely on technology AND engage in active listening.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In this webinar, participants will learn how to:

  • Identify and remove barriers that block active listening
  • Utilize communication techniques that will dramatically increase your chances of being listened to (not just heard…)
  • Ensure your own listening success by using the 5 most powerful phrases when receiving verbal communication
  • Build a culture of active listening across your organization—without doing away with the conveniences of modern technology
