Strategies for Getting Employees to Bring a 'Safety Attitude' to Work Each Day

Duration: 60 minutes

Why is it that some employees keep safety top-of-mind every day while others need constant reminders? What makes people “think” safety? What processes are at work in the brain that drive people to have a “safety attitude”? This program will answer those questions and give you a framework for getting your entire team onboard with making safety your workplace culture.   (more details below)

WHY ATTEND

Since day one of their careers, most of your workers have been encouraged to think “safety first.” As they matured in their jobs, some adopted that message as a way of life while others continue to take shortcuts that put themselves and their co-workers at risk.

This webinar will shed light on what turns people on to safety and what turns them off. You’ll learn what your Safety team can do to change the minds of risk-takers -- and how to use safety-minded employees to encourage a safety culture.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This webinar will lead the participants through the ABC's of Personal Safety:

A for Attitude:
  • What kind of safety goals promote the best attitude?
  • When do scare tactics work to improve attitude -- or do they work at all?
  • How do I get workers to understand how their attitudes towards safety affect others?
  • What’s the best way to empower workers to make “safety changes” in the work environment?
B for Behavior:
  • Why are unsafe behaviors so contagious … and what can I do to prevent them?
  • Does behavior based safety really change attitudes towards working safe?
  • How do I encourage workers to confront others about unsafe behaviors?
C for Commitment:
  • How do I help workers become committed to safety as a condition of employment?
  • What’s the secret for getting my people to internalize my safety message?
The instructor asks participants to come prepared to share a brief "real life" safety attitude scenario that has affected them either at work or at home.
